From season to season. From a bad day to a good day. Over and over, people tell us "I just needed to feel like Spring..." or Christmas... or Summer. Providing an uplifting experience is one of our goals.

While we always offer our core product lines, the feel and look of the shop changes completely with the seasons. Luscious golds and rusts of fall become a magical holiday world of decorated Christmas trees, laden with ornaments. The sunny yellow of forsythia branches bursts forth in late winter. And the fresh greens of spring turn into a riot of summer colors and decor for porch, patio and garden.

Our building is a great old barn that was carefully and creatively put together with pieces parts from all over. The front door is from the original Peterborough tavern - and still has a crack in it "big enough to throw a porcupine through." Once the Carousel Horse Antique Shop, the barn has been home to The Black Swan for nearly 30 years.

Gary and I purchased the business in 2001. We have tried to build on wonderful existing traditions while broadening the product selection and price range as well as spiff up the building and the property a bit.

Whether it's a three dollar metal grasshopper, a squishy, stuffed Bearington bear, a garland of bittersweet, a fat Santa or a Halloween hat - there's something for nearly everyone. It's a happy place. Right down to the bows that adorn our gifts and the flowers in the garden. We love what we do and we hope that it shows.

We are located in the picturesque Monadnock Region of New Hampshire, in the lovely, quintessentially New England town of Peterborough, which was the inspiration for Thornton's Wilder's "Our Town."

Tradition and change. It's very New England - and very Black Swan.
